Too big to move? Dismantling and shipping the Marel Spiral Oven from Spain to Poland

Surplus equipment is a common challenge in the production industry, particularly with inactive production lines integrated into existing facilities. However, at ERY Food Machinery, we say, “What is built-in can be moved.” Discover how we supported our long-term clients in moving a 20-tonne Marel oven without a scratch!

From a spare oven to a new buyer

Our client is an international company that produces chicken and meat kebabs. We have been supporting him since 2021 by purchasing surplus food processing machines, including AM2C separators, Vemag fillers, and vacuum tumblers. An inspiring opportunity arose during the client’s restructuring of its operations in Spain.

Previously, our client used the impressive Marel Spiral Oven TSO 600/96/4 machine to process chicken into high-quality convenience food. Due to plans to renovate the facility in Spain, he wanted to sell the machine and relocate it from the building within 2 weeks. In the meantime, our long-term client in Poland decided to buy this machine and bring it to his country. ERY coordinated all the operations in Spain.

How to move the Marel Spiral Oven TSO 600/96/4?

Dismantling a machine integrated into an existing facility requires careful planning, a variety of specialized tools and equipment, and creative problem-solving. The team comprised Polish mechanics and Spanish contractors. Project challenges included the lack of flooring in the facility and the inability to move the oven through the roof.

Other elements of this production line included: an oil heating chamber, a weigher, an infeed, and an outfeed belt. All of them were dismantled and carried to the new buyer.

The Marel Owen model weighs 20 tons and has dimensions similar to those of a large shipping container.

The operation in Spain included:

  • disconnection of electrics, controls, and fittings, including oil heating apparatus
  • moving the machine out of the facility
  • preparing the machine for transport, loading, and shipping.

The Marel oven and accessories traveled approximately 2700 km and reached their destination at the beginning of December 2024. The whole operation took 2 months.
